Pizza, pizza, pizza – everyone loves pizza.
Independent pizza parlours like Voodoo Ray’s, Firezza and Basilico have been making vegan pizza for our pie holes for a while now, for which we are eternally grateful.
Zizzi were the first major restaurant chain to offer cheesy vegan pizzas back in 2016, while Pizza Express started offering vegan cheese last summer, with Pizza Hut announcing the addition of vegan cheese to their menu at the end of 2017.
But sometimes, you don’t want to eat out or spend a load of cash on pizza delivery – you’re tired and you just want to grab a pizza from the supermarket on the way home from work, you know?
That’s when our options as vegans tend to fade out. Sure, White Rabbit make a smoky vegan cheese pizza, and Tesco has just launched two new delicious vegan pizzas but these are both in the chilled section, and also, they’re not widely available (not everyone has a Tesco on their doorstep).
I miss Dr Oetker’s frozen pizza so much sometimes it hurts. There’s nothing quite like a frozen pizza, thrown in the oven, shoved on a plate and eaten with a wee bit of lettuce and a whole lot of dip.
If only a mainstream pizza company would recognise that sometimes, a vegan just wants to find love in a frozen place. If only…
Hello, wait, what’s that? Is that a….Goodfella’s…frozen….vegan….pizza?!
What you are looking at here is a vegan stonebaked vegan pizza with falafel, red peppers, spinach, white onion, spicy harissa sauce, and houmus drizzle.
Now, this topping combo doesn’t actually excite us all that much because falafel and houmous on pizza sounds like a digestive nightmare, but if looks anything like the picture on the box, we’re keen.
However, food items often don’t look like the picture on the box, so we’ll have to wait and see with this one.
The good news is that the pizza has been approved by the Vegan Society.
The bad news is that it won’t hit freezer aisles until March, although it can be yours for the sum of £2.50, which is a dream, really. No more overpriced vegan pizzas.
Now, if this takes off, we really hope there’s a frozen vegan cheese pizza hitting our trolleys in the not too distant future.
